Cool Vintage Items on the Site Today
February 29th, 2008 — DaveBy Maribeth Keane, Collectorsweekly.com
I was looking around the site today and came across some interesting finds that I thought I’d share.
I’ll start with my favorite, found on our Leica camera page. As a documentary photographer I can’t get over this vintage Leica M3, introduced in 1954. The body comes with a Leitz dual range Summicron lens and a leather carrying case. There are no major dings on the body, the seller claims it has been inspected and is in good working condition.
Although I’m a rather big Beatles fan, this was a new find for me: The Beatles vs. The Four Seasons LP VJ 2 Record Set. The record is like a game where one song is played from each group back to back and then judged with points. Who do you think would win? Found this on our vintage record page, the seller claims its in near mint condition and may have never been played, which makes me want it even more!
On our movie posters page,I found this linen-backed, 1963 classic US original poster of The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock signed by “Tippi Hendren” aka Melanie Daniels. The poster measures 40 x 30 3/4. I think I might have to start a classic movie poster collection.
The Jetsons! This classic lunch box from our lunch boxes page takes me back, I remember watching this cartoon everyday. The vintage lunch box made by Aladdin in 1963 has a dome top which is perfect to fit the matching thermos that comes with it. The paint is still bright and colorful (like the space family themselves) and is the perfect addition to any lunch box collection.
As my parents chose to make me a ballerina when I was young I never got much into comics, but how can I not get excited about this one? Batman #1, unrestored, the origin of Batman and first appearances by Catwoman and the Joker! Sounds like the comic of all comics to me (see more vintage Batman paper on our Batman comics page).
I can never pass up a stylish vintage dress when I see one. This wool, 1960s mod dress is subtle yet chic with it’s monochrome diamond cut-out in the front and top stitched detailing. On the back there’s jeweled rhinestone buttons coming to a restored black zipper, and the sides of the dress meet at insert pockets along the seams. Perfect for an evening or chilly afternoon. Find other lovely dresses like this on our vintage 1960s fashion page.
Though I’m no expert on antique typewriters, they have always fascinated me. This Emerson No. 3 is what I always thought a typewriter should look like. According to the seller, the machine was patented in the early 1900s with type bars that use a swinging hinge style and 3 1/2 bank keyboard. There are some worn out areas, but that would be expected from a typewriter almost 100 years old. Check out our antique typewriter page to see several other great-looking early typewriters and accessories.
That’s all for now – got to go!
