Welcome!
January 17th, 2008
Hi, and welcome to the Collectors Weekly blog - thanks for visiting! I’m Dave, the editor and chief bottle-washer.
In these pages, we’ll be featuring voices from the antiques and collecting community, both guest contributors and our own staffers. For example, check out the guest articles section for expert overviews of specific collecting areas - there’s some great stuff there.
Got a subject you think we should tackle? We’d love to hear from you… just use this page to send us email, and be sure to include your name and city (we won’t ever publish your email or full name).
Now, a short explanation of how The Collectors Weekly got started. Some things you just know you have to do (or buy) when they hit you. For example this office chair on the right, patent date 1897. I found it one Sunday at 6:15am at the antiques fair in Alameda, CA. It had style and class, and was practically being given away. I couldn’t pass it up.
The chair says “Cook Quality” on the bottom. I never did find out anything about the company, but from the functionality, simplicity, and beauty of the chair I think “Cook Quality” really stands for something.
That appreciation for quality is why we started Collectorsweekly.com. I began as a telephone collector (still am), built a site called Telephonearchive.com, and along the way started noticing all the amazing websites built by individuals with intense passion for their areas of collecting, pouring their heart and soul into it, creating sites that just blew me away.
I wanted to shine a spotlight on these collectors, to create a showcase on the Internet for the best of Antiques and Collecting. And so we’ve started. I hope you’ll bookmark Collectorsweekly.com and visit us regularly. Please spread the word to friends and fellow collectors. And most importantly, let us hear from you! Tell us what you like and don’t, what you collect, how you found us. We look forward to hearing from you!
