The revival of stained glass in the 1850's spurred an American art glass movement, led by two big names, Louis Tiffany and John La Farge. Both experimented with new glass styles, but it was La Farge who in 1881 patented 'opalescent glass,' a translucent, milky glass, often used for bowls and vases. Tiffany and others revived the stained glass mural at the turn of the 20th century.
