Glass paperweights became fashionable in the 1840s and 50s, even winning top honors at the Great Exhibition in London before falling out of vogue in the 1870s. Major makers like Baccarat, Saint Louis, and Pantin used various techniques to create vibrant and intricate internal designs: 1) The sulphide technique for small figural items or images; 2) the millefiori method for blobs, knots, swirls and flowers; and 3) the lampwork method for 3D images inside the glass.
