What are you looking for?
For much of the 19th Century canning was a difficult chore, especially the challenge of getting jars shut with sealing wax and unreliable, crudely cut tin lids. Then in 1858 John Mason of New York invented his revolutionary jar, made by a machine that could cut threads in the lid, rendering them not just reusable but more effective. In 1915 the Kerr jar we know today was introduced, featuring a metal lid under a threaded lid, allowing less moisture to escape.
Bottle collectors, who often call themselves ‘diggers,’ seek a wide variety of bottles for their beauty, color and historical significance. Some key collectible varieties include bitters, milk, soda, beer and pointiled bottles.
