Ice chests and coolers were crucial for marketing Coca-Cola from the beginning. Until the advent of electric coolers in 1930, these were the predominant way of storing and displaying the product. Coca-Cola also distributed large quantities of small portable picnic coolers (insulated metal boxes) starting in the 1930s.
