Think 1970s, Saturday Night Fever, The Bicentennial, and... digital watches. The first Pulsar and Timex light-emitting-diode display models (later displaced by more efficient LCD displays) actually required holding down a button to see the time, because the LEDs drew too much power. But they were really cool, especially in the dark. And some collectors think they're still cool today!
