Matchbox die-cast miniature cars and toys were initially produced by Lesney Products, a small company co-founded by tool-and-die maker Jack Odell in post WW2 Britain. Matchbox toys (so named because they were originally packed in boxes resembling match boxes) went on to become wildly popular in the U.S as well as Britain, and are highly collectible.
From the earliest tin, pressed steel and pedal car models to the latest NASCAR limited editions, collectors have always had a thing for model cars. Hot Wheels and Matchbox are collecting worlds unto themselves, and related categories like model trucks, tractors and buses get plenty of interest too. Start your engines!
