The Piggy Banks Page

About Antique Piggy Banks

Rumor has it that piggy banks evolved from pygg, an orange clay used in the Middle Ages to craft household items like jars in which small objects were commonly stored. Eventually these took on the shape of actual pigs, and were frequently given as gifts. In the 20th century banks began giving away piggy banks, which spurred collectors to start collecting them.
