Vintage movie posters are highly collectible, especially those before 1940, of which few survived because theatre owners had to send them along to the next theatre. A smaller poster variant, the 'lobby' or window card, is more available, because theatres were allowed to add their names and keep them. Starting about 1940, theatres were able to buy more copies of the larger sizes and keep them - these later posters are generally marked with the year and edition.
Vintage posters are highly collectible, as they make for great discussion pieces and bridge the worlds of art and history. There are many collectible poster varieties, such as wartime, movies, music, political, sports, circus, aviation, railroad and pure art. Condition, rarity and attractiveness are especially critical with posters - do your homework before you buy.
