Company founder George Blaisdell created his first Zippo lighter in 1932, in an attempt to make lighters easier to use. He moved the chimney, added a sturdy hinged metal case, and offered the world an affordable $1.95 price tag. Zippo began printing brand names and logos on its lighter cases, and later (1950s) added a date code to each unit, now invaluable to collectors. Hundreds of millions of Zippos have been produced of varying designs, many of which are collectible.
Tobacciana covers a wide range of collectibles related to smoking, tobacco, cigars, cigarettes and pipes. The category includes high-craftsmanship items such as match holders (aka safes) and cigar store Indians, as well as mass-produced items like matchbooks, ashtrays and lighters (cigar, cigarette, Zippo).
