In 1878, Gunther Wagner co-founded the Pelikan artist supply company, but it was 1929 before the company produced its first pen, taking advantage of a more efficient ink-filling system. The Pelikan 100, as it is known today, is highly sought-after by collectors (as is the company's Toledo model, introduced in 1931). Vintage Pelikan pens are valued for their soft, flexible nibs that tend to last a long time.
