    Hi everyone

I was recently donated a very interesting antique object by a family member, who acquired it through a deceased estate furniture sale. I cannot identify the item at all, depsite searching the internet for weeks, and have attached a few images.

The item comes from a home that was built in approx. 1877 and was passed down to the family members who have lived in the house until recently.
The family were very active in the diamond trading industry since the 1800's.
The item has a square wooden base of 17cm x 17cm. The top mechanism is of solid brass with a handle and small roller.
The top has a pound and dollar sign with numbers 0-9. A brass pin can be pulled out and placed in any of the holes at any of the numbers, dollar or pound sign.
There are also 3 sizes of aluminium plates with the item, the right hand corner of each plate is bent at exactly the same angle with four denominations: ¼, ½, 1, 2, and imprinted on the discs: CM.

It appears that a piece of paper can be placed underneath the roller and a price, e.g. $30.00 can be printed on the paper, using a rotary motion by “pumping” or pressing the handle.
The imprint is made with many small holes, the size of a pin-head. Done in such a way that the number/value printed cannot be forged or altered. Image attached.

There are no manufacturers markings, names, etc. There is only a serial number on the brass handle: 5382. And another number underneath: 22.

    It weighs 3.9 KG.

I will greatly appreciate your thoughts on this item.

    Thanks in advance
    Steven
