I paid more for this bracelet than I've ever paid for a jewelry piece before $50.00:) I just loved the modern design and construction of it. The brown marble panels have a touch of green threading through and are attached by screws through the back. The silver tone panels have a great art deco look about them and the clasp is marked KO or KD? It has a great machine age look and would love to know who designed it.

    Is it bakelite?
  3. sarahoff sarahoff, 10 months ago
I really am not sure what its made of I haven't tried testing it yet and without ever smelling bakelite I wouldn't know what to sniff for:)

I love doing the 409 test. I usually take a Q TIP and a small amount of 409 solution, and rub a small patch. It typically turns yellow very quickly. If pink or gray, then I know it's not bakelite. I then wash and rinse the affect idea to make sure it doesn't ruin it.

Great piece, definitely Bakelite, I would have paid 50 for it too, to resell it even

Thanks Nadia, I will definitely test that out:)

Thanks stillwater, the person selling this had a few bakelite pieces for sale and didn't label this one as such, so I'm wondering if maybe it could be galalith?

Very special! Great find - I haven't seen one like it. I love metal and plastic combinations - this is a find. I think it's bakelite. I bought a tube of simichrome for $8.00. It lasts forever and a small amt on q-tip will turn yellow when you run the plastic. Also - it polishes up metal nicely too. I know Nadia already does this because she's careful - but if you rinse it best to take a blow dryer or put it near a fan to make sure it all dries completely. I LOVE it. Wear it in the best of health.

It looks very similar to some Jakob Bengel bracelets I've found online. Is anyone familiar with other companies from that time period that had a similar design style to Bengel?
