This is a nice piece of antique photographic ephemera. This type of item looks great in a display of antique photographs or antique cameras.

This is a MAY 1870 issue of Harper's Weekly.

The front cover contains a great wood cut of a photographer with his camera.

Just as today, photographing a baby was tough. Many photographers resorted to using mom or dad hidden behind the chair or under a cloth, to keep the baby still and focused. These "hidden mother" images have an eager group of collectors searching them out.

In this example the photographer uses a doll to keep the child interested and focused on the camera. Most parents can attest to this same practice being used to this day.

Reproduction of these images is prohibited.
