I don't know anything about this trunk. A woman sold it to me for $100 and it was sitting in her barn. I sanded all of the gold paint off of the iron work. There is no date or writing, but I have found similar trunks dated in the late 1700s. If anyone could help identify, I would be grateful!!

It is a lovely trunk and I have some thoughts to its age. Usually they would not be blackened around the metal work -- so that may be a modern enhancement -- also where the key hole is -- is there a mechanism for the key inside -- looks like there is not -- which would suggest this was a later decorative piece. (an early 1700's to late 1800's piece would have a fully functional lock mechanism) Also is it thin metal or actual iron pieces on the outside. A picture of any dovetailing on the corners would be helpful in dating this. It may be an old trunk but if it is not cast iron pieces and no real lock mechanism then in may be modern made to look old... kinda hard to tell with pictures sometimes..
