I was so young and I had to write a first letter in school to someone and I thought who better than Elizabeth Taylor. The year was 1968, a beautiful summer. Cannot remember my age as I started school at 5 years old, I was lucky to have her home address and waiting after a while I had my return letter, although I had not asked for a return. I was so young. So what were you doing in 1968, do you even remember?? As a coincidence years and years later in the 1990's, Chen Sam was Elizabeth Taylors agent in NYC and the states. I was good friends at the time with Chen Sams parents who lived in Toronto. They also had a stall at Harbourfront antiques.
Here I have just scanned the material, a light blue letter. I had always taken very good care of all my memorabilia, always saving it, even using photo corners to mount the paper material instead of glue when I had them to use. I even have some of the boxes that my toys came in, so everything was stored, waiting for me to return, and so today I returned, if only for a moment... Something so inconsequential yet sentimental, memories of a fleeting life. Phil
Special work with computer highlight colors has allowed me to color the images by only using highlights, especially the third photo.
Somewhere and sometime in that whole vanished galaxy that we all seem to forge our memories, I post this black and white photo of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. I have colored the photo by sepia toning and then using highlight colors to lighten and add highlight colors only. Not my usual method but if it works I will use it. I started to paint photos on paper years ago first using food colors then later in life using Dr. Martins airbrush watercolors and then later I would use almost anything I had, which included crayons and oil paints. At that time it was an all hands on deck approach, no computer to make it easy, no digital. And so as the song says, "Video killed the radio star." "In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone too far. Oh-a-aho oh."
Only history will tell through time whether or not Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton will be one of the greatest love stories ever on this earth. When you sum it all up, it reads as well as Napoleon and Josephine, Caesar and Cleopatra, Helen of Troy and we are back at square one, ... all the stars in that whole vanished galaxy !
