I have these 2 pieces for about 40 years, got them when I was young, from a very old neighbor. I like them because they are so primitively done. I also am intrigued by them, since anywhere I've looked I cant find anything like them..

Hi Helen, the motif, dragon and phoenix, rooted in ancient lore, suggests these are Chinese. The dragon is four clawed, so not intended as imperial. The thickly laid paste in the main shapes and wing feathers seems to be moriage, a technique associated with the turn of the last century. Moriage is more Japanese than Chinese, but there is Chinese moriage ware to be found. My guess here is Chinese, and 1900 more or less. Perhaps someone with a better knowldge of porcelain can add more. Good luck, Jim

    Maybe not Asian?
That crown on the lion's head is more European, imho.
    Are they a pair?
    The same size?

    Y. I believe they are a pair. They are the same size, but one is a bowl, the other a plate. Any ideas on value?

sorry about asking for ideas on value. I meant are they worth researching anymore or just putting them back on the shelf. Still not sure what time they are from, but thx for the input guys, and gals.
