This platter was made by Macbeth Evans Before WWII. It has a low uranium content but definitely glows proving it to be pre war.The US banned uranium use in glass during the war.

Hey HW... I think someone told me once, but I am trying to buy a black light... Do you have a recommendation. Preferably a cheap one!!

LEDs don't show white uranium glass or custard glass well at all.That is the only downfall to the LED blacklights.They do very well on green and yellow uranium glass.
Didn't know that, my wife may be passing up some of the glow in her searches.
Pic four shows this piece and a yellow satin glass piece using LED blacklight.
So a handheld fluorescent may be the better choice to go hunting with then.

I choose the LED for hunting because it does well in cases.And once you've trained your eye to the reaction of custard glass to LED you can still spot it.I try not to draw attention to pieces being uranium glass,once the shop learns about it the prices rise and it is hard to get a deal.
People get very curious when you go around shining a flashlight. My wife was crouched down scanning the bottom shelves in a thrift shop one day when she realized a little girl was crouched down beside her trying to see what she was doing. lol
