On Feb. 20, 1962 NASA, astronaut John Glenn climbs into the Friendship 7 space capsule atop an Atlas rocket at Cape Canaveral, Fla., for the flight which made him the first American to orbit the earth. He made three orbits in all. At the time I was 11 years old and was awestruck by Glenn's accomplishment.
The clock is in great condition, except for the lens, which I will try to buff out so the plaque is more easily read. It runs and keeps great time. It is a 24 hour clock. I was doing a search for Pennwood clocks and this one popped up in the items list. It is very Mid Century Modern Art Deco. The sides and back of the case look like something designed by Norman Bel Geddes in the 30s. Glenn made his historic flight in February of 1962 and Pennwood began manufacturing these in July of that year.
The Tymeter came out of a moving sale. The Tymeter owners had just purchased a new Airstream and this was a left over from their old Airstream they didn't have room for it in the new Airstream, I am thankful they didn't just toss it.
