Inspired by AmberRose's photos i thought I'd include some.

These were my Grandfathers, who was an engineer aboard this airship, the R100, less famous than the R101 which caught fire on its maiden flight. I believe the R100 was decommissioned after the R101 disaster. My Father is slowly scanning lots of photos.

I love the people casually sitting (and standing!) on it so high!
My father recently told me a story his father told him, which I'd not heard before, about how Grandad almost died. After working on an engine he slipped but managed to grab hold of one guy rope with one arm!
We were very nearly never here.
Its hard to believe today, that people worked so high without safety harnesses.
Hope you enjoy.

    Thanks AR.
I do love old photos. Yours are fantastic and inspired me to add these.
Isn't it a shame you don't see these giants gliding through the air anymore.

I grew up in Cleveland so the Goodyear blimp hung around a lot. My brother actually saw it in a corn field, went over to see what was going on...helped with some repairs, then got a free ride! So jealous!

Sound like snapshots-- if you can I'd like to see the back of one of them. Often you will find dates stamped on the back.

Hi scott. I'll find out if there's any dates to go with these. They're my fathers and he's in the process of slowly scanning them. But i imagine if there's no date printed on the back my Gran could've written it. She always wrote info under the photos in her albums.

    Hi Vintagefran,

Would it be at all possible to be put in contact with your father; I am part of small group working on establishing a visitors center at Cardington now that the hangars are being restored and we would like to know more about your Grandfather, and possible get some larger copies of his amazing images. I can provide you with an email address for direct contact. Many thanks, Paul.

Hi Vintagefran. Did your grandfather know Nevil Shute Norway, the engineer and novelist? He was Barnes Wallis's deputy engineer on R100 and succeeded him as its chief engineer when Wallis moved on.
