Civil War Wheelchair. Has wooden wheels and hubs cast iron races. It's all hand woven cane and solid Oak. I have to make some parts for it but I know the people I need to, to get the job done. I think this one will be my 2012 project.

I know the civil war is one of my favorite times in history.
I would love to restore the chair. It is one of those projects that come around not to often. Post after pictures when you are done.

I Have An Old Rocking Chair Some one gave me Made like that seat and back! Where do you get those repaired around charleston sc.

I checked on google chair caning South Carolina and there is nothing close from that perspective. The only other thing you could do is call the people at the John C. Campbell folkschool ask if they know of a caner in your area. https://www.folkschool.org/ If I were you I would goto the town halls in the surrounding towns and ask if there are people giving caning classes. Or call a furniture repair shop and ask if they know anyone. Local antique dealers or antique co-ops or auction houses may know or there maybe a card on the Advertising board in the shops. Try to find 2 or 3 people and look at their work. Ask if they have customers you can call. Don't be happy with th first caner. I have 8 people in my area that cane 4 wont do it for anyone but family. 1 have been taken to court for damaging furniture. Another is cheaper than myself but doesn't do as nice work as I (I'm not bragging a lot of my customers were hers). The other person wont work for dealers but will take walk-ins. I take on all comers I'm the only game in town for about 50 miles. I don't advertise I get plenty of work word of mouth. I wish I could be of better help but I'm up in N.Y. state sorry.

This is a great website for restoration work and I also enlist the work of some Amish furniture makers from time to time. The book that is on the site that is above is a great resource book. Thanks. It'll be a lot nicer when I get the time to restore it. I've got so much going on right now. And summers coming the wife will want to go camping. And I'll have more people wanting me to work on their furniture. I can't say no I enjoy doing it and I like all the people I meet.

If you are close to the west coast of Florida there is one of these for sale every weekend on the Mustang side of the Wagon Wheel flea market.
I hate to crash the party on this item, but I suspect it is a post Civil War style chair.
The chair construction, wicker seat/ back and small hand push wheel are all indicators (TO ME) of a post CW construction.
