Just a great old painting on black velvet .
    Classic 1960 .
It looks like someone went to visit a tribe of cannibals.
    With pointed teeth.
And asked Him if He would like to have his portrait taken.
Of course the tribesman man said yes.
I wonder what happened to the painter?
    The face looks in anticipation.
Thinking about something good in the near future.
    An honest look.
    Dinner perhaps
The teeth looked well cared for and clean
Apparently the tribe understands dental hygiene
As well as common dental sharpening .

      F. w. Balkwill has a few ethnographic and labor paintings represented in collections, worldwide.

In the Republic of the Congo, as of this date, ownership of Pigmy people is the same as owning a dog. They are considered "pets" or worse, slaves to be treated as owners see fit, with no reprocusions for inhuman treatment.

One of the past infamous scandals is written about here: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/06/nyregion/thecity/06zoo.html?

I discovered three oil paintings by F.W. Balkwill in a thrift store in Salmon Arm, BC. They were painted in 1937 (a 3 horse pack train and rider heading into the wilderness; 1955 (a black lab retrieving a duck) and 1968 (a pair of white mountain goats and a kid goat.) They are interesting and well done. I would really like to know more about this artist too.
