This is a tintype of a boy and his cloth rag doll . His Mother made by hand . The handmade dolls were common in houses that did not have much money and they were far more safe than China and Bisque dolls. He is precious in his mismatched pajama's . Thought I might share another boy :-) I love these old cloth primative dolls because they were made with love and usually from scraps of left over material . Circa unknown late 1800's I would suspect .

Great image manikin-- 1870s or later. A view of the entire plate (including edges) might reveal more clues to narrow down the date.

I wonder when it became wrong for boys to play with baby dolls? I always let my son play with them so he could learn to be a gentle daddy:)

Sara I agree my son had a doll but would never admit it today ! A My Buddy doll . So I think it is acceptable many guys might not remember or want to admit it :-)
The HS did a test in health class and had all the boys diaper a doll . None of the boys could get it on right and these are the Dads we need to be there for the young generation . The boys were along with girls sent home with those robot type dolls that cry and wake you until you change diaper ,feed it or turn it Was a wake up call to the teens being a parent is not fun and think about what you would do at 16 with a baby . Most decided they did not like having a baby :-) Later would be better . xoxo

Manikin just turn off the crop, so you can draw a crop. or move the corners away from each other corners

@ filmnet :-) There is no place I can uncheck automatic crop and it saves it already cropped so I can't find a way to let me scan and do my own cropping . I am sure there is a way to get it off but have no idea where husband put the book that came with scanner and he is quite ill and heavily medicated in hospital for close to a mo. When he gets home and can think clear I will find manual . I have never had a scanner that did this before and I have had many over the years and this one if there is a blank space of no color crops it so it even will crop half a scan off if there is something between the photo that is white . I will get it though It will not defeat me :-)

    Great Photo.

Try laying a dark colored paper a little larger than the photo over it to increase the size.

This is beautiful, but so sad when treasures like this get lost out of the family forever as if there are no longer people who care. Luckily family history seems more treasured now than ever.

Thank you Phil . Yes one wonders how things get out of a family and not passed on but there are many people when a older relative passes just toss out the stuff in house to get it on market . I see that a lot her . It all goes onto a curb for trash pick up :-( Thanks for the love xoxo
