This South Indian bronze figure of Shira, measuring 9.5 x 7.5 inches, is known as Lord of the Dance ( Nataraja ). Said to have come from Tamil Nadu Region circa mid 20th century, cast in bronze, and pattern after a 27 3/4 inches circa 14 century. It was listed in Sotheby's Art Auction catalog page 144 for $151, 000; in the 1995 - 96.
It said that the finished sculpter Augusto Rodin was known to have seen bronzes from Southern India. The icon of Shira as Lord of the Dance is perhaps the most recognized subject represented in the Hindu religions. And the this sculpture is particular awe - inspiring dor its delicate balance and exquisite detail.

I welcome any and all information pertaining to this object.
