I took it to a Chinese gentleman who said it was so old that this mark is no longer used. Any ideas ?

I am thinking it is a family crest or mon.
    Is it marked in anyway?

Hi, I’ve been looking at this ring several times a week for about three years. It’s my North Star, the newest posting in Asian is always just to it’s right. And many times I’ve thought that it might be a stylized symbol for Shou Xing, one of the three star gods in the Chinese pantheon. Shou is represented by dozens of symbols and I’ve chosen two that I think are closest to yours. The article in the first is worth a read. See what you think.
    Regards, Jim

The first link does not work properly and does not show the symbol I wanted you to see. Google; Shou (character) and it should be the first entry.
