I need someone to aid me with this blanket chest that I have. I purchased it about 30 years ago. I was told at the time it was late 1700 to early 1800 but I really don't know. It's 44 inches length by 24 inches wide and 27 inches high.
It has a somewhat of a dome top with painted squares throughout the exerior with a painted floral on the top of the chest. It also has a veneer finish on all 4 sides including the top. it's painted red inside, has a drawer on the bottom that look like dovetail joints.
If someone can help me identify and give me a rough estimate what the market value would be on something like this I would be very appreciated.

    Thanks in advance, Jim.

I think it is in the STYLE OF a very late 18th century, early 19th century TEA CADDY.

However, the construction (side joints and decorative pieces) along with the hardware (drawer pulls, brass hinge and safety latch) would lead me to believe it was made in the early 20th century.

Picture #3 is blurry but it looks like red cedar not paint . This doesn't even come close to 1800's from what I see. I would sooner think it was a hope chest rather than a blanket chest.
