Another of my favourites.
About 10" tall.
I love its 'hour glass' figure & the pale green uranium snake, which glows nicely against the grey alabaster glass in normal light & UV.

It looks like Ozmartys found it.
Thank you OM :)

    Thanks V.
I cheated, thats the ebay picture on the listing, i think taken with proper black light, I've only got a torch at the moment.
I think it will look nicer on a sunny day..next chance i get I'll take some better pictures. I was lucky no one else bid on it, i almost didn't myself, but thought it was so unlike anything else i have and it wasn't too expensive.

Is the lip ground? Pad feet are a personal favourite too. Ground pontil?
  5. Vintagefran Vintagefran, 9 months ago
    Hi V,
I didn't know the base was called a pad foot, thanks:)
Is that because of its shape?
It looks like it could be a very ground pontil but I'm not sure.
The top lip looks just cut, not very smoothed.
I'll get some better pictures of both.

Nice one .. I think earlier. 1880's - 1900 . Bohemian / Bavarian possibly Schliersee or Schachtenbach ReganHutte...

Really Ozmarty, as old as that?
It was listed as Bohemian/Czech and thought early 1900s.
I thought it maybe later because of its very ground/polished base.
I'll add some photos of it.

    Thought I knew the vase...
Schachtenbach are known for their snakes.

    Wow, well done ozmarty.
    Thank you
They do look very similar. Other than the color differences, this has a more 'pointy' top.

The glass in both is Alabaster Glass , made in imitation of the stone . Notice that it is not white ( Milk Glass ) but a translucent greasy grey .

I was going to visit the site if the Schachtenbach Hutte (factory ) but there is only a small walking track that is difficult to locate from Regenhutte , even most of the locals did not know where it was . . I did find it but had a long walk the day before (about 20 k ) and feet were still sore .
There is so much in this area to see would love to go back...
The Boarder did not exist for glass workers except after WW11 .

    Thanks Ozmarty,
Thats fascinating, I've never heard of Alabaster glass.
And that you visited the factory site! How exciting.
I'll have to read up on it:)

I thought it looked grey because it was a grey day.
Its great to know its Alabaster glass, thank you Ozmarty. It has grey and white streaks in it which, if it weren't for the bubbles, really do make it look like the stone.

I did not make it to Schactenbach but went to Regenhutte twice

I love ebay bargains, especially when the seller has yard sale prices.
