This limited edition vintage dragon figurine by Enchantica is Arangast, the dragon known in the Enchantica novels as the Guardian of Summer. This figurine has an interesting color history. When it was first released in 1990 this figurine was painted in the colors that you see here which are the warm tones of golden yellow and light golden brown. However, for some reason the decision was made prior to midway in the short 2 1/2 year production period to produce this figurine in more vivid and intense tones of bright yellow and dark chocolate brown; some collectors feel that the later pieces are more garish than the earlier version shown here. Thus the figurine in this listing can be reliably dated to the earlier part of its production run by means of the more conservative painting style that was used.

It is interesting to note that all four of the Guardians of the Seasons dragons later had smaller counterparts in the 1993 release of the series known as the Spirit of the Crystal dragon figurines. Although these smaller dragons were not identical copies of their larger counterparts, they are quite similar in posture and style to their "big brothers".
