So far, this year I have been realy lucky finding great jewelry for next to nothing. I bought this nice mourning brooch for about 1 euro at a flea market. Judging its incredibly long extended needle, its c-claps and its tube-hinge I think it dates from around 1850. It has some minor damage: the lower 'dot' is split in half (see last picture), but for the rest its in great condition.
The four 'drops' are jet, I'm pretty sure about that. The brooch itself might be wood, painted black, but I m not sure. Its not black enough to be jet, it seems to be carved, and it doesn't feel really cold to the touch. Does anybody have an idea?
Thanks a lot!
