I was helping this lady move out of her house and into a small apartment. She had to downsize and was giving items away and this is trunk was something she wanted me to have for helping her. She had the trunk for over 30yrs. I know nothing about trunks. I am not a collector. It says Yale & Towne on the lock and that's it. I was looking for more information about this item.

Your trunk is a flat top, about 1900 or so that has already been refinished. It was originally covered with canvas. This has been removed and the pine underneath cleaned, possibly stained and then sealed with something like varnish, tumg oil or poly. The corner metal pieces are accentuated which is intended to protect the box itself. The hasp along side the lock is what people did for security when they lost the key. I love it.
