My Dad bought this at an antique store in Sarasota Florida in the 1960's it is approximately 8' from beak to foot. It is assembled in 4 pieces two legs, the body and the neck/head. It has Japanese(?) lettering on the throat. I believe it is made of copper and then painted. Does any one know anything about this??? We affectionately call it "The Bird".....At one point in time my dad was offered a lot of money for it but he refused to sell it. Would love to know more about it..

Trying to jog my memory...I remember some question as to it might have been one of two or a pair. The other possibly owned by Bertha Palmer???

I have added my best copy of the inscription on the throat of the crane tried to do a rubbing but I was unsuccessful.

    Unsolved Mystery
