U.S. Commemorative Postage Stamp FDC - First Day Cover Issue
Scott catalog# 1914 / Issue date - May 21, 1981 / Denomination 18¢

This was one of a series of eight stamps issued in the Space Achievement Series - This one depicting the Space Shuttle "Columbia" on a mission in space. (Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over Texas and Louisiana as it reentered Earth's atmosphere, killing all seven crew members on February 1, 2003, shortly before it was scheduled to conclude its 28th mission.)

This First Day Cover also included a gold replica of the stamp.
*** Just like any collector, a chip off your china plate, a nick off your glass dish, a scratch on your antique chair - this is a philatelists' nightmare. Bad storage practice has damaged one of my collectible First Day Covers. Removal from the plastic sheath has damaged the stamp. The first picture is how the cover was represented in its sheath, second picture shows the damage after removal. This cover no longer has any value.
