Mudwoman
(5 items)

This egg is ceramic and because of its raised banding I believe to to be Satsuma, however the two women on both sides of the egg are not typical. There is an incense burner sending up smoke, the sitting woman is smoking from a strange pipe while the woman standing is holding a fan, to perhaps fan away the cloud of smoke surrounding her. If anyone has seen this scene on an egg before I would be very interested in finding out more about it. Thanks.

    Very nice.
I see one woman playing an instrument while the other dances.

Thank you, you've proven how a fresh eye can see something different! Now I see it too! I guess I was too wrapped-up in the smoke from the burner. Now even though it looks Satsuma in the band that goes around the egg, the women don't seem to be Asian in attire or hair, not that China and Japan haven't made pieces for other countries.

Thank you! I realize as I read the description just now I had not mentioned the size of the piece which is 18 inches to the highest point on the egg. Thank you for inadvertently bringing this to my attention as well!
