This 1936 Parker model BB desk set in black glass and chrome is a true art deco treasure with matching 1936 vacumatic lockdowns in silver stripe. Complete and original, this desk set is featured in Parker's 1936 catalogue retailing for the princely sum of $18.00 plus the pens. Special features include the "Sealomatic Socket" which not only tilts horizontally to prevent the pen from draining into the socket, but also has a snap in retainer that holds the pen in tight to prevent drying out. Both pens are made in Canada, 4th quarter, 1936 with original 14k nibs. This Deskset sits proudly on my 19c rosewood spinnet desk and is just outstanding enough to hold it's own. Traded an art deco Girard Perregaux wrist watch for it in a small antique shop. I use one of these pens daily, the other was professionally restored by Ron Zorn, and will likely remain uninked.

    $18.00 "plus the pens" ...

And for the day, the pens were not cheap either. As you said, Pricey for "the" Depression.

It's absolutely my favorite set, and is actually the one responsible for my obsession with "pen porn"(my wife's name for it). The condition is just superb, and the Parker Vacumatics are my favorite style of vintage pen. I've trained myself in many aspects of their restoration, but when I saw the work that Ron Zorn did on a pen that had been soreley abused (section gouged from pliers, burn marks, nib bent and twisted), I was in awe.
