A recent estate sale find, I am interested in any information that members might provide me in determining the origin and approximate date of this wood carving. It measures approximately 14" in diameter. The only thing I know about it is that it is at least 100 years old and is hand carved from hardwood. My guess is that it has no functional use, and that it was made to be hung in front of a window pane.

Beautiful. It also reminds me of the decorative pieces used over the speaker of some radios, though they were generally not hand-carved (and only 2-dimensional). See an example here: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/26123
