Here's an old, cast iron waffle iron that I bought at a flea market earlier this year. I've recently become interested in cast iron. Anyway, he had it marked at $8, but he took the $5 that I offered him. It's been sitting in the garage ever since. Last week I decided to build an electrolysis tank to get all of the rust off of it. It worked great and got every bit of rust off. I finally got it seasoned yesterday, and here it is. One guy told me that it's from the very early 1900s. Unfortunately, there's no name on it.

Thanks. This was my sacrificial piece for the electrolysis tank. I'm very happy that it worked the way it was supposed to. Now I want to do more. I see cast iron as being my next collection. I'm new to it and how to properly season things, but I'm learning a lot.

Thanks, gargoyle. I've heard of using molasses. I wondered how good it would work. Luckily I have a covered porch. That's where I have my set up.

It works great!Mix lasts about 2 month,and costs,in my area ,about $3 a gallon(which makes 10 gallon of mix)
