I wonder if anyone can understand what years these were made, i thought it was a CDV, but the corners are sharp and it thin, no writing on back either. After i made an 8/10 yesterday i see a USA flag on this ship, and this looks like a huge clipper ship. My wifes family had a Captain of one of the last clipper ships Charles Tibbets, His last ship was Sea Witch 1887-1905, he was on many huge ships here is some writing about him. Here is a post .

Looks like an albumen print on cardstock, so I see no reason to not call it a CDV.

Earlier images tend to be on thinner cardstock, with no corner rounding.

I don't know the full history of the ship, but this appears to date from about 1860- 1872. I bracket the dates with the beginning of the CDV format to the time your family connection was lost.

Thanks Scott The Captain or his wife might have brought this home, So if its this old its not the Sea Witch which was his last ship. Sea Witch ship was make in New York 1880's he was in other ships before this yrs. I found 6 months ago then this Dad was a Captain, and his Grandfather was a Captain in the war around Salem 1778.

What ship is referenced in your write up: "SHE continued in the California..."?

OK-- I still think that it is an early CDV. Most likely 1860s- 70s.
