The green one is approx 11 inches long and the brown 10. They are hollow and the wire things come right off. The patina is what grabbed me and now I have them and have no idea what I have. Please help!

    Best regards,

    Brian O'Keeffe

The wood part is called a pirn; thread would be wound onto the narrow, tapered section and the thicker part, with the metal bands, would fit into a clamp inside a shuttle as used on a weaving loom. In use the thread would simply wind off the small end without the pirn rotating. I've not seen the wire device before but having seen people turn the shuttles into things like candle holders I wonder if it was someone's art project.
