This is a photo of my grandfather on his large estate riding mower. I believe it is an old Toro mower. The picture is margin-dated Aug. 1957. This same mower was still operating when I last mowed the estate in 1982.

The mower pictured is a Locke. That particular machine was made between 1933 and 1941.

Any idea what happened to that machine?
My grandfather used that mower up until 1980. - The mower and his old Ford tractor may in fact still be in the garage but I haven't been to the old farm since 1982.

Toro was a good brand, we still so them at Home Depot, special roder program.

I colect old power mowers and Briggs engines. Locke mowers are in my opinion the best power reel mower ever built. But quality cost; a new triplex like the one in the pic cost about$700 in the early 30s about as much as a new ford.
