    Hello,

I am needing some assistance. I am new here and I won this item in an auction with other silver plated pieces. It is an inscribed bowl from 1964 that was given to a Major in the army, and I am not sure of the metal. It appears to be sterling silver, from the weight of it, but the only markings I can find are on the bottom, and I have attached a photo. It looks like a star with a circle inside it with a dot in the upper left corner and then two symbols on either side of that that appear to be Japanese symbols. Does anyone know what these symbols mean? I have scoured the Internet trying to find what these markings are with no luck. Hoping someone may know what type of bowl this is, i.e., silver plated, sterling, stainless, etc. based upon the markings.

    Thanks for any insight!!

It was an end of tour presentation piece given to the MAJ.

It is very common thing to do in the US military and foreign militaries usually do the same thing when we serve with them/ in support of their military.

I am not familiar with asian silver hallmarks but from the look of it would suspect that it is higher grade silver and NOT plate.

Due to the era and location, it has minimal collectibility for militaria folks.

Most of its value would be the silver.
