I just picked this up. It appears to be all original. The dimensions are
L 30" , W 19" , H 20" The lock, hinges and straps are a heavy metal. Maybe cast iron. I have no other information about the item. I would like to know anything information about the lock, hinges and the box. I found two others similar, but the owners did not have any back or history on the trunk.

Wait until scottvez gets on here. It is the same design as ammo or dynamite boxes but the hardware is a bit unusual.

A bit strange to have such heavy hardware on a pine crate. Looks to me like it may have been repurposed -- hope someone out there can tell us what this box was for. Was the hardware heavy like this one on the two others?

The other two's hardware look to be made out of the same metal, but each was slightly different and very close in size.

I forgot to mention a very important detail. There is German Writing on both ends of the trunk.

I tried to take a picture of the writing, but it does not show up in the picture. I will write it out.

This is the German word for lieutenant colonel or wing comander.
