Ive had this Victorian Era match holder for many years. I believe it was used to hold matches for possibly lighting oil lamps. I have a collectionof oil lamps so it works good together.
I have not seen another but dont believe that its unique.
Its signed but hard to read and really cant make out what it says. Its made out of a pot metal and a greenish (Tarnish) colored patina applied.
Anyone know anything about it?

On your particular piece the wooden match stick would fit in raised hand of the figure.

Most interesting idea, but the hand that would hold the match is not really made to hold a match. There is no hole to hold one. It is a match holder, there is even an area for striking matches all around the base.
