A VERY CHERISHED DREAM HAS AT LAST COME TRUE.
FOR YEARS I HAVE COVETED A SAILOR IMAGE BY LEYENDECKER, CURRENTLY OFFERED SHAMELESSLY AS AN EXPENSIVE REPRO. BUT I DID NOT KNOW ITS DATE OR ORIGINAL USE.
NOW I KNOW. IT WAS THE COVER FOR THIS 1917 CATALOG.
You are bidding on an original 1917 all J.C. Leyendecker illustrated brochure for The House of Kuppenheimer, Chicago, for spring and summer of that year. Lyendecker's illustrations for menswear feature his distinctive brush work in the faces. Measuring 9 x 5.5" closed, the condition is very good+. There are two staple stains on the left border, a pencil notation in the lower right border, and there is top and bottom separation of the pages, but still intact. I've included images of only a portion of the seven JCL paintings inside this brochure - it is all in color
