My wife and kids picked up a small section of a turn of the last century bar for me on Fathers Day 2012. Rumored to be from a boarding house near the Wisconsin/Illinois border. There are names carved in its top, many difficult to read since some are carved over the top of others and work done to it in the past has faded others. The earliest I can confirm is 1952, no way to confirm where or when this was used but it does make for an interesting story, especially with "Norman Mailer" carved at one end.

Fun little project that should give me a nice area to display various brewery and automotive collectibles. Not much of a carpenter but with the help of my three boys, we muddled through with acceptable results.

Looking good! I love those old back bars.

Built the back bar using two (of three) solid oak dresser mirrors made by Richardson. They worked perfect for this project, also used a mid 40's Richardson dining room table for the back bar counter tops...it all came together very well.

Have a bit of finish work to do come spring (mini fridge will be installed under the back bar, possibly adding a vintage tap system). Appreciate the nod!

I love it except for the fact there is no indication of when Happy Hour is. Now for the top. If you want to preserve it use a two part clear epoxy. If you have never done it before practice on an old piece of wood. It is NOT cheap but it will give you a super hard clear finish. The finish is very durable and moisture won't bother it and it won't crack. CAUTION: NO COMMERCIAL CLEANERS. Plain old dish detergent and water will keep it clear as a bell.

Appreciate all the great comments! Need to wait on the epoxy until friends/family have carved their names in the new section of bar top, happy hour will begin later this summer when we have our "break in the bar" party (have several choice Bourbons I'm looking forward to!).
