I just acquired this lighter and I did a bit of quick research which lead me to this site. I have read some of the blogs about similar lighters and a member called SerbianSpark seems to be very knowledgable about this particular style of lighter. I was hoping that he might comment on this lighter. Thank you.

Nice "trench lighter". This style, with the hidden flame was very popular in the 20s and 30s.

It is missing the ring that operates the snuff cap, as well as one of the rivets that hold the snuff cap to the body. I would like to have it repaired to almost-original condition by someone who knows what they are doing? Do you know if it's worth anything? Would it take away from its value to have it polished? Not really planning to sell it as my elderly father gave it to me.

I wouldn't polish it-- the patina is desirable.

A QUALITY repair to make it function correctly will not detract from it.

Some online searches should yield values-- ebay may give you several examples.
