    Hi so what I know of this table is that it is made from hard authentic wood don't know what type , it is patterned with elephant tusk I think and this is a fold away table top comes off and sides of the octagon shape8sided table fold in on each other. Supposedly this was used over 100 years ago so people could take it into centre India on the train and sell things from it , could you help me with this as I love this and want to know more ???       Most Indian works that are represented as ivory, are bone. Take a magnifying glass if you are not knowledgeable & see if you see grain & pores in the inlays. Let us know.

      doesn't appear to be that old it has modern hinges and screws

      don't worry it's old, 100 yr maybe, from India colonial era. Somebody call it French style indian table. Timber is probably white Bombay wood, one of the rosewood family. However, not rare.
