This oversized cabinet card is part of a series of stereotyped/ racist images that were produced by Russell Brothers of Anniston Alabama, in the 1890s.

This particular image shows an African American mother and three children on the steps of their cabin.

These early Black Americana images are highly collectible.

Reproduction of these images is prohibited.

I have to say I find this one and the other Russell Bros. card quite shocking, scottv. Very telling items!

I agree with you vetraio-- they are very telling about the mindset and attitude in America.
