The Wigwam Motel in Rialto is still open for business. It is just west of San Bernardino on Foothill Blvd which used to be Route 66. Probably one of the last remnants of Route 66 this far west. It's about an hours drive to the end of Route 66 in Santa Monica.

Was the inspiration for the animated movie "Cars"?

I grew up about a mile from this place, glad to see it's a survivor. We use to travel Foothill Blvd (route 66) daily. Back then it was lined with orange groves and vineyards. There use to be fruitstands with giant Orange shaped juice bars where you could get fresh squeezed juice and produce. Thanks for the post.

Dr Fluffy I believe it was in part. That and the town of Oro Grande on the other side of the Cajon Pass. I always tell people that is where "Cars" was filmed. (Yes I know it's a carton).

Thank you rocker-sd. I was reading in the newspaper they were moving one of the giant oranges but I don't recall where.

Thank you valentino97. I have pondered staying there myself for a night but I only live 40 minutes away. I am up in the mountains near Lake Arrowhead. Twin Peaks to be exact.

It's $67 for a weekday night. I'm taking a vacation week at the end of the month so it is a possibility.

I didn't realize this was right near me in Rialto. It's been a while since I've seen it and it's good to know it's still there!

Shareurpassion it is near me too. Too close to make a stay there. There is another in AZ I may visit.
