This is one of my favorites. It's the largest photo in my collection at about 9"x7" in size. The card that the photo is mounted on is very thick, too. The man has a badge-like pin on his jacket, I don't know what it is - maybe someone could help.
The man is unidentified and the photo isn't dated.
This photograph was taken by the Ellison Studio of Lansing, Michigan. Ellison is another highly popular studio in Lansing. The middle photo is a shot of the bottom of the card, where it identifies the photo as "Ellison Studio, Lansing, Mich." Sorry that it didn't turn out.

I have an undated, unidentified photo of an ancestor from the Ellison Studio in Lansing, MI. We are guessing it is from circa 1900, but we aren't sure. It looks like there were a number of photography studios at the 201 Washington Ave. S address over the years. Do you happen to know when the Ellison Studio was operating at that address? It would help us identify the subject if we knew the approximate date of the photo! Thanks so much. Also curious if you have any knowledge of photographs/photo studios in nearby Eaton Rapids, MI as we have many photographs from there - similar time frame (1880s-1910s).

      Hello Kristi_in_Toronto,
Ralph Ellison's photo studio was located at 201 S. Washington Ave. from ca. 1900-1909. In my collection of approximately 70 antique photographs, 9 are from Ellison and none are dated. Would you mind posting your photo from Ellison? The appearance of the photo may be a clue as to a more specific date.
Many of my photos are marked at 201 Washington and it doesn't really make any sense because they all date from the same time frame. If I ever figure out the reasoning for that common address I will let you know.
I am not very familiar with Eaton Rapids studios, the only one I am familiar with is the Christmas studio (Christmas also had a studio in Lansing). Eaton Rapids Area Historical Society may be of some assistance in local studios (eatonrapidshistory.weebly.com).
Hope this helps a little. I have done quite a bit of research on Lansing area photo studios, but that location 201 Washington is just a lingering mystery.
If you have any other questions just let me know. I am always happy to discuss Lansing area history!

Neat moustache. Format would indicate 1890s- 1910 time period.

I am not sure what the pin is.
